Author Mentor Match is a mentorship program that pairs unagented MA/YA writers with agented, experienced authors.
I submitted MAGIC, my MG light fantasy, almost as soon as applications opened. And a few days later, I received a request for the full! I did another round of revisions, sent it out, and crossed my fingers.
It was a nerve-wracking month. I kept checking Twitter for updates and teasers.
I may or may not have overanalyzed the teasers.
When I heard that the AMM announcement might get released early, I was super excited!
That day, I was running around town and had tossed my phone in my bag. When I checked it, I realized my phone was still on and had randomly started opening up tweets for me... And I found the greatest news in the first tweet I saw:
I'm SUPER happy to announce that I was picked by Sean Easley!
4 on 7 is a new monthly series where I curate 4 interesting items and share it on the 7th of the month.
This is my way of sharing what's going on in my life & some fun things with you. Enjoy!
1. Japan + Cilantro = Obsession
During my last trip to Japan in 2016, I found out that Japan was (maybe still is?) obsessed with cilantro. It was called "cilantro boom" (boom = craze). At a restaurant, my Japanese friends got super excited when they saw an ALL cilantro salad. Here's an article about it: http://eng.wakuwakumag.com/phakchi
2. Writing a book good enough to sell to an editor
This quote inspires me to keep writing at my best: "(M)y mentality was that I didn’t just want an agent, I wanted to query a book that was good enough to sell to an editor." -- Stephanie Garber, as interviewed on Literary Rambles in February 2017 (see the full interview here: http://www.literaryrambles.com/2017/02/stephanie-garber-guest-post.html)
3. Me? I'm drafting all MG right now.
Here's what I'm working on now: a MG Contemporary Fantasy that has a mix of humor, found family, and a trouble making goat & girl.
3. Wildcard: Beautiful, whimsical artwork by Heikala
Heikala posts her watercolor & ink artwork AND neat behind-the-scenes short videos on her Twitter. I especially love her witch-inspired and Japan-inspired work: https://twitter.com/heikala_art. Here's one of my favorite pieces by her:
